Dr. Yevgeniy Dyo is an internationally acclaimed violinist praised as an “elegant violinist” (Luis Biava, Principal and Conductor-in-Residence Emeritus, Philadelphia Orchestra) and noted for his “fine, sylvan sound, a combination of secure intonation and lithe bow arm” (Dr. David Cannata). Critics highlight his control, solidity, beauty, and dramatic versatility.
He made his debut with the Kazakh State Orchestra at age nine. He has since performed at prestigious venues across the former Soviet Union, Europe, Asia, Canada, and the United States, including Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Kimmel Center, Mozarteum Wiener Saal, Meyerson Hall, Astana Philharmonic Presidential Hall, the Embassies of the Vatican and South Korea, and the United Nations General Headquarters.
His awards include the grand prize at the Shabyt International Chamber Music Competition (Astana, Kazakhstan) and the International Organization “New Names” Award (Moscow, Russia), among numerous national and international honors.
Dyo has been featured in South Korea's KBS World Radio program "Korea and I" and in the “Ten Chu” documentary, the WWFM program “Celebrating Our Musical Future,” and in a number of interviews and performances on Kazakhstan National Radio and Television. He was featured in the Washington Post's coverage of the regional premiere and second-ever performance of Bernstein's "Music for String Quartet" in Washington, D.C., and other publications such as Korea Phila Times, Korea Week, Kazakhstan’s Pravda, and Koryo Ilbo.
As a chamber musician and soloist, he was a founding member of Musica D’Accordo Astana, the premier chamber ensemble of the Astana State Philharmonic Society, and performed at international festivals, including Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. Orchestral highlights include the world premiere of Karl Jenkins’ Requiem in London (conducted by the composer), guest concertmaster appearances with the New Jersey Capital Philharmonic, and assistant concertmaster with Camerata Kazakhstan. As a member of Trio Fontes, he frequently performs in the tri-state region.
Dr. Dyo has taught violin and chamber music at institutions including Temple University (coaching alongside Philadelphia Orchestra principal harpist Elizabeth Hainen) and The Peddie School. He has given master classes at the Mongolian State Conservatory, Flint School of Performing Arts, and The Music School of Delaware. He has served as a judge for the GMP International Violin Competition (New York) and as a regular judge for the New Jersey All-State auditions since 2015.
A dedicated leader, Dyo served as vice-president and president of the Philadelphia Korean Musicians Association, one of the nation’s oldest Korean arts organizations. Under his leadership, the organization participated in major events, including the First Korean Congress Centennial Celebration and the 50th anniversary of the Korean American Association of Greater Philadelphia.
Currently, as Executive Director of Global Music Partnership, he served as co-production manager for multiple Carnegie Hall events in partnership with the US-China Cultural Foundation.
